Iowa Time Machine ⏰: On April 27, 1991, Drake University began a new chapter with the groundbreaking ceremony for the Knapp Center. This moment marked the start of an exciting journey to create a premier multi-purpose athletic facility that would become the heart of Bulldog sports.

The Knapp Center's construction was a testament to the power of community support and generosity. William C. Knapp, a prominent businessman and member of Drake's Board of Governors, played a pivotal role in making this vision a reality with a significant donation of $3.1 million. The facility's design featured custom-made trusses spanning 210 feet, ensuring a spacious and versatile interior that could accommodate a variety of events and activities.

Since its completion in 1992, the Knapp Center has become an iconic venue for Drake University athletics. It boasts a seating capacity of 7,152, five multi-purpose courts, four racquetball and handball courts, and a 5,800 square-foot strength training area.

The facility has hosted numerous high-profile events, including a visit from President Bill Clinton in 1996. Over the years, it has undergone renovations to enhance the fan experience, including installing new LED scorer's tables and video systems. #IowaOTD #IowaHistoryDaily #IowaHistoryCalendar
