Iowa Time Machine ⏰: On November 27, 2015, the Iowa Hawkeyes completed a perfect regular season by moving to 12-0 with a 28-20 win over Nebraska. Led by quarterback C.J. Beathard, tight end George Kittle, and linebacker Josey Jewell, Iowa put together an all-time great regular season run.
Kirk Ferentz entered his 17th year as the head man for the Hawkeyes with a team that garnered relatively modest expectations. However, after starting 4-0 in a non-conference slate that featured wins over Illinois State, Iowa State, Pittsburgh, and North Texas, Iowa went into Camp Randall and beat nineteenth-ranked Wisconsin 10-6 to capture national attention. The Hawkeyes entered the national poll the following week and continued to climb while racking up wins over Illinois, Northwestern, Maryland, Indiana, and Purdue.
On the final day of the regular season, the fourth-ranked Hawkeyes arrived in Lincoln with the Heroes Game Trophy and a perfect BIG 10 regular season on the line. Iowa looked to redeem a 37-34 defeat at Kinnick at the hands of the Huskers the previous season and went on to deliver a 28-20 victory. The Hawkeye defense reeled in four interceptions paired with big breakaway runs of 29 and 68 yards by runningback Jordan Canzeri to ensure the victory. Beathard and Kittle connected on a touchdown, as well.
Champions of the Big 10 West, Iowa headed to Indianapolis for a showdown with fifth-ranked Michigan State. Although the Spartans captured a 16-13 victory, Iowa still gained an invite to the Rose Bowl. Stanford, led by future Kittle NFL teammate Christian McCaffery, bested the Hawkeyes, but Iowa fans left the season with a lot of great memories from a perfect regular season. #IowaOTD #IowaHistoryDaily #IowaHistoryCalendar
