Iowa History Daily: On March 4, 2000, the Iowa State Cyclones men’s basketball team closed the regular season with a 75-54 win at Baylor. The Cyclones went on to secure a #2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and make a run to the Elite Eight.
Led by Head Coach Larry Eustachy, the Cyclones entered the season coming off a 15-15 record the year prior. Picked to finish sixth in the Big 12 conference, the Cyclones boasted a balanced lineup featuring Jamaal Tinsley, Marcus Fizer, and Kantrail Horton.
The win at Baylor capped a 14-2 Big 12 regular season for Iowa State, and headed into the conference tournament with momentum. The Cyclones ran through the Big 12 Tournament to capture the championship by beating Oklahoma 70-58 a week later to secure a #2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
