Iowa Time Machine ⏰: On March 11, 1989, Roy Marble, Ed Horton, and BJ Armstrong played their final home game as Hawkeyes at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Marble left as the all-time leading scorer at Iowa, and Armstrong left as the all-time program assists leader.
Two Michiganders, Marble, Horton, and Armstrong, arrived in Iowa City as part of George Raveling’s 1985 recruiting class, which also included Les Jepsen and Kevin Gamble. All five players went on to significant careers at Iowa before ultimately finding their way onto NBA rosters.
Playing for Raveling for a season before Dr. Tom Davis took over for the group’s final three years, the players amassed a 97-37 record over four memorable seasons for Iowa. Armstrong graduated with 517 assists and currently stands sixth all-time. He also ranked sixth on the school's all-time steals list (178) and fourth in total points (1,705).
Marble left the college as Iowa's all-time leading scorer with 2,116 points, a record that stood for 32 years. Marble's son, Devyn, followed in his father's footsteps to Iowa and then to the NBA. Devyn and his father became the first father-son duo in Big Ten history to each score 1,000 points.
