Iowa Time Machine ⏰: On February 7, 1941, NFL lineman Dan Grimm was born in Perry. An all-time great at Des Moines Roosevelt High School, Grimm spent seven seasons in the trenches of the offensive line while playing for four teams.
After a childhood spent in Perry, Grimm’s family moved to Des Moines, where he earned all-state honors as a tackle while playing for Roosevelt from the Des Moines Register in 1958. He also won a state wrestling championship as a senior when he won the Class A heavyweight crown.
Taking his talents west, Grimm played his college ball at Colorad,o where he again dominated on the line. Selected in both the NFL (Green Bay Packers) and ALF (Denver Broncos) drafts of 1963. Opting to head back to the Midwest, Grimm played under legendary Packer head coach Vince Lombardi. Grimm helped the Packers to an NFL championship in 1965.
Grimm spent five years in Green Bay. Playing offensive guard, the former Rough Rider also made professional stops in Atlanta, Washington, and Baltimore before ultimately retiring following a successful career. #IowaOTD #IowaHistoryDaily #IowaHistoryCalendar
